Woman Killed, Suspect in Custody After Shooting in Northport

Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting in Northport Saturday left a woman dead.

Captain Marty Sellers, co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, confirmed the shooting at 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

Sellers said the VCU and Northport Police are on the scene of a shooting in the 3200 block of 28th Street in Northport.

An adult female is dead, Sellers said, and a suspect is in police custody.

This is a breaking, developing story and the 18th homicide the VCU has investigated so far in 2023.
