An investigation is underway after a Tuscaloosa woman died following a three-vehicle accident in the city Friday morning, police have confirmed.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of 15th Street at about 7:15 Friday morning. The wreck, which happened near Queen City Avenue, caused one of those vehicles to collide with a third car, which was parked and unoccupied.

Taylor said both drivers were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, and one of them died at the hospital later Friday.

Police have only identified the deceased as a Tuscaloosa woman as they work to notify family and investigate the crash. The other driver, a man, was treated at the hospital.

TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit will handle the investigation, but they look into every fatal crash that occurs within city limits, and their involvement does not necessarily indicate that charges will be filed.

UPDATE: on Saturday, TPD identified the victim as Marchema Deshannon Williams, 51, a woman from Tuscaloosa.

Police say she was driving south on Queen City Avenue, crossing 15th Street, when the passenger side of her vehicle was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The collision pushed her car over the curb into the parking lot of an auto parts store, where it struck an unoccupied vehicle.
