On Sunday morning, Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, told the Thread that dispatchers were called around 11 p.m. Saturday. Carpenter said police were alerted to a woman who had been walking on the highway near Upper Columbus Road and was struck by a passing vehicle.

NPD officers responded to the scene but found the victim did not survive the collision.

Carpenter said the department's accident reconstruction unit is investigating the deadly incident. He said the victim was a 33-year-old female but did not identify her by name at the time of this report.

This story will be updated with the victim's identity after her family has been properly notified. Stay connected to the Tuscaloosa Thread for more news as it becomes available.
