William Eugene “Billy” Foster, born August 14, 1950, in Fairfield, Alabama, died peacefully after a brief illness on March 8, 2024, at age 73.

Billy is predeceased by his parents Henry and Imogene Foster, and sister. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Salliegeo Todd Foster, their two sons William Todd Foster (Edie) and James Thomas “Tommy” Foster (Chan); four grandchildren; and his brother Robert Thomas Foster (Lynda); plus numerous nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Fairfield High School, Billy served in the US Air Force with one tour of duty during the Vietnam War. After returning home, Billy worked at US Steel in Fairfield and retired after 31 years.

His retirement years were spent soaking up the sun on the river, watching college football and NASCAR, listening to his favorite music on vinyl, and enjoying time with friends and family. Billy was always unassuming and even-keeled in nature. He greeted everyone with a cheerful welcome, was truly present, and an attentive listener. Spending time with Billy put everyone in a good mood. He was also very caring and would call people on a regular basis, just to check in and make sure everybody was okay, whether it was during the pandemic or during bad weather. And each conversation with Billy, whether in person or over the phone, would end in either, “See you in the funnies!” or “Roll Tide!” but was always preceded with, “Well, I love you!”
