Will Anderson Jr. Earns the SEC Defensive Player of the Week Award
The SEC announced on Monday that Alabama superstar sophomore linebacker Will Anderson Jr. was selected as the conference's defensive player of the week for his incredible performance against LSU.
The five-star sophomore finished the game with 12 tackles (career-high), four tackles for loss and sacked LSU quarterback Max Johnson 1.5 times. Anderson also had a pass breakup and had a couple of quarterback hurries.
Two years ago, Joe Burrow and LSU came to Tuscaloosa and racked up 46 points. This season, Anderson led the Crimson Tide defense to only allow 14 points and 295 total yards.
The Tide only scored 20 points. A disappointing but sufficient amount to beat the Tigers for the second consecutive year.
This is not the first time Anderson has received this weekly honor, though. It is actually his fourth time being selected and the ninth time any player on the Tide has been selected.
Will Anderson Jr. will likely be a finalist for multiple defensive awards (and possibly a Heisman Trophy finalist) at the end of the season. The best part is... he's only a sophomore and will continue his journey to the NFL next season at Alabama.
Next Saturday, the Tide will host New Mexico State at 11 a.m. on SEC Network.
