Vote For Eric Prewitt For National Veteran Of The Year
Veterans play an essential role in shaping and protecting our country. Their dedication to service goes beyond the military, influencing every part of American life. From defending our freedoms to serving their communities, veterans uphold the values that make our nation strong. The name veteran signifies service and commitment.
A man that fits the description of serviceman is Shelton State's Director of Financial Aid Eric Prewitt. His life of service has led to being selected the 2026 State of Alabama's Veteran of the Year. He is now a candidate in the Higher Education category for National Veteran of the Year as named by Military Friendly.

Military Friendly began in 2003 with a goal of improving corporate hiring of veterans. They evaluated an employer’s policies and resource allocation to recruiting military veterans; and how well they performed. Over the years they have significantly improved those numbers. As his Military Friendly profile states, Prewitt exemplifies commitment through, "...tireless dedication and compassion for all students and particularly veterans."
The Hale County High School graduate is a decorated veteran of the United State Navy. During his eight-year stint he was awarded Navy Achievement Medals, Navy “E” Ribbon (Third Award) and received a nomination for Sailor of the Year.
Returning home, Prewitt reenrolled at Shelton State Community College and the received a bachelor's degree from Athen's State University to complete his education. That led to twenty-one years of service as an employee at Shelton State in various roles. He currently is the Director of Financial Aid.
The vet also serves as the President of Shelton State Community College’s Alabama Education Association, President, 100 Black Men of West Alabama Inc., and serves on the National Committee of the Collegiate 100.
