Tuscaloosa’s Third Whataburger Coming to UA Strip
Tuscaloosa's third Whataburger is set to come to the University of Alabama Strip alongside the city's first Mediterranean Sandwich Co. following a meeting of the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama System earlier this month.
In their April 9th meeting, the Board unanimously approved commercial leases for both restaurants in the University Town Center near Insomnia Cookies and Moe's Southwest Grill.
Both resolutions approved by the Board promise to bring "modern, upscale" facilities to the shopping center, "upgrade the mix of businesses on University Boulevard," and "add to the healthy eating options available to students, employees and visitors in the area that are convenient to campus."
Tuscaloosa's first two Whataburgers opened in early 2018 on Skyland Boulevard and McFarland Boulevard, and both have been wildly successful in the Druid City.
The Mediterranean Sandwich Co. is a Mobile, Alabama-based restaurant faithful to its name -- specializing in gyros, flatbread paninis and wraps.
The Tuscaloosa store will be their first outside of the Gulf, where the company operates three locations in Mobile and one in Daphne.
The Trustees' decision was first reported in the Tuscaloosa News.
