Tuscaloosa’s Iconic Summer Snow Now Serving Shaved Ice for the Season

It's a warm, sunny week in Tuscaloosa, which was enough motivation for an iconic shaved ice shack to share the great news that they've opened for the 2025 season.

Summer Snow has served up shaved ice "Snowballs" in Tuscaloosa for more than 30 years, and the colorful shack at 1501 University Boulevard near Alberta is set to sell hundreds of the treats each day to help get through the hot times ahead.

The formula is simple and hasn't changed much since Summer Snow opened in 1988 - a scoop or two of shaved ice with an almost limitless selection of syrups and cream so you can have a different Snowball every visit or pick a favorite and stick to it.

Summer Snow is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and accepts cash or credit cards for its icy delights. They usually close at the end of summer, in late September.
