The City of Tuscaloosa is seeking candidates for two supernumerary positions on the city's Zoning Board of Adjustments (ZBA). The two terms will end September 30, 2026, and September 30, 2028.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment typically doesn't get much attention unless a controversy arises. It is a quasi-judicial board comprised of citizens with experience in zoning ordinances with preferably a background in engineering, architecture, construction, real estate or related field.

Established in 1959, the board handles requests as variances, modifications and special exceptions and considers appeals of decisions made by the city's zoning officer.

According to a press release by the city, supernumerary positions serve on the board only when needed in the absence of a regular member. Their decisions hold the same authority as a regular board member.

Applicants must meet two basic requirements. They must be a citizen of the City of Tuscaloosa and be available to attend monthly meetings which are conducted on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00pm. The meetings are open to the general public.

All applications must be received by 5:00pm on Tuesday, September 23rd. To submit an application, visit Tuscaloosa.com/boards. Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see the seven current members listed along with the expiration date of their term. To the right of your computer screen, you will see spaces to fill in your information and upload your resume.

Interested persons can find additional Zoning Board of Adjustment information by clicking on the City of Tuscaloosa website.

The next ZBA meeting is scheduled on Monday, September 22nd, the day before applications are due.
