Officers arrived on the scene around 2:45 a.m. and found a 44-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound and laying in the street.

The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where Sellers said he remains in critical condition.

After interviewing witnesses, police believe 40-year-old Talina Howze was in an argument with the victim, pulled a gun and fired multiple shots at him.

Sellers said as far as investigators can tell, the suspect and victim have no prior relationship that could have motivated the shooting.

Both Howze and the victim are Tuscaloosa residents, Sellers said.

Howze was arrested and charged with attempted murder. She was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $60,000.

UPDATE, 9 P.M. THURSDAY: Sellers said the victim of this shooting has succumbed to his injuries.

The charge against Howze has been upgraded to one count of murder.

The VCU has not yet released the victim's identity pending family notification.
