Police in Tuscaloosa are responding to a fatal shooting Monday night, worsening the most violent year in the city's recent history.

Captain Marty Sellers, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers responded Monday night to reports of a shooting in the 3000 block of 20th street.

The shooting reportedly occurred at a corner store and deli there.

Sellers said one male victim is dead.

By the count of the Tuscaloosa Thread staff, it is the 21st homicide in city limits the year. The VCU has investigated 28 homicides in the broader Tuscaloosa County area.
