Tuscaloosa Police Identify Jane Doe Killed Walking on Highway Monday
Police in Tuscaloosa have identified the woman who was fatally struck by a passing vehicle as she walked on McFarland Boulevard early Monday morning.
As the Thread previously reported, the woman was struck by at least one vehicle around 4 a.m. Monday and the driver stopped and reported the collision to Tuscaloosa Police. Officers initially thought a second vehicle struck the woman and kept driving, but said Tuesday they no longer believe that to be the case.
TPD could not immediately identify the deceased pedestrian, but on Tuesday afternoon, spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor said investigators working with the state forensic lab in Montgomery have identified the woman as 56-year-old Janithy Ann Campbell, a Tuscaloosa woman.
Her next of kin have been notified of her death, Taylor said.
The deadly accident remains under investigation, she said. For updates if any are released, stay connected to the Tuscaloosa Thread.
