Powell was reportedly driving a 2003 Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 80 when it appears he left the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree.

Burkett said the wreck sparked a fire, which spread through the truck. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The deadly collision and fire took place around 1 p.m. Saturday, about 10 miles east of Demopolis in Marengo County.

Burkett said the Troopers will continue to investigate the wreck and no further details were available Sunday morning.
