Tuscaloosa Man Killed in Crash & Fire Outside Demopolis Saturday
A 70-year-old Tuscaloosa man was killed Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident outside Demopolis, Alabama State Troopers have confirmed.
Sergeant Jeremy Burkett, a spokesman for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, said the victim was Richard E. Powell, 70, of Tuscaloosa.
Powell was reportedly driving a 2003 Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 80 when it appears he left the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree.
Burkett said the wreck sparked a fire, which spread through the truck. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The deadly collision and fire took place around 1 p.m. Saturday, about 10 miles east of Demopolis in Marengo County.
Burkett said the Troopers will continue to investigate the wreck and no further details were available Sunday morning.
