Police in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Charge Man With Rape, Sexual Abuse & Sodomy
A Tuscaloosa man has been charged with four felony sex crimes after a long investigation by the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa VCU, said the suspect, 31-year-old Tommy Ray Wilson, is believed to have committed multiple sex crimes against several victims at various times within the last year.
"For the privacy of the victims, no other information will be released about these offenses at this time," Kennedy said.
Wilson was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual assault and two counts of first-degree sodomy.
His combined bond was set at $195,000.
Kennedy commended the courage of Wilson's alleged victims for coming forward and helping investigators build a case that led to this arrest.
He also said the VCU is also open to talking with anyone else Wilson may have victimized who has not yet come forward.
"Due to the nature of the abuse, and known proclivities of these types of offenders, we encourage anyone who may have been a victim of Tommy Ray Wilson to please contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690," Kennedy said.
The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is made up of detectives from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, the Northport Police Department, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office and the University of Alabama Police Department. The VCU investigates nearly all violent crimes, unnatural deaths and sex crimes in Tuscaloosa County.
