11th Annual Krispy Kreme Challenge Race Benefitting Local Agency Kicks Off Saturday
A local challenge that combines the love for running and glazed donuts will return for the 11th year this weekend which will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama.
The Tuscaloosa Krispy Kreme Challenge will kick off Saturday morning at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa where participants will have the chance to test the strength of their physical and gastrointestinal endurance.
According to the event's website, the challenge began locally in February 2013. During the race, participants will run one mile, pick up and eat one dozen glazed donuts and run one mile to the finish line.
Not a runner or donut lover-- no worries! Participants are not required to run or eat as a part of the event.
Registration for the event is $20 for participants ages six through 11, $40 for participants ages 12 and older and $30 for members of a registered team.
The deadline to pre-register is Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Participants can register on the day of the event for $50.

Editor's note: an earlier version of this story wrongly reported that the Krispy Kreme Challenge will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of West Alabama. Proceeds will actually benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama.
