Richardson Gets Federal Kidnapping Indictment
42-year-old Randall Latroy Richardson has been indicted in federal court for a kidnapping that took place in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve 2024. Richardson allegedly confronted a woman in the parking lot of a convenience store on Hargrove Road East in Tuscaloosa as she was returning to her vehicle. The charges accused Richardson of threatening her with a weapon, forcing her into her car, and driving her to another location.
The woman was on her phone with relatives at the time of her abduction, they realized she was in trouble and contact Tuscaloosa Police. A patrol unit intercepted the vehicle with both the victim and suspect still inside, preventing further assault.
Richardson was initially held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond under Alabama's Aniah’s Law. He was transferred to federal custody following the federal grand jury indictment.
"The people of Tuscaloosa County and the Northern District of Alabama should be proud of their local law enforcement officers for quickly apprehending the defendant following this incident," U.S. Attorney Phillip W. Williams stated in a press release. Williams said he is looking forward to prosecuting the case.
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Michael Baygents voiced gratitude for the way his officers, the Violent Crimes UNit, FBI and the U.S. attorney's office have worked together.
If found guilty, Richardson could receive the maximum penalty of life in prison.
