TuscALERT Getting New Technology To Improve System
If you subscribe to the Tuscaloosa County TuscALERT emergency alerting system, you will begin receiving emails from the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency today. They are notifying subscribers that the county is officially switching to a new alerting system, RAVE, on June 19th. The name will remain TuscALERT to reduce confusion, but the new system will be a great improvement.
TuscALERT went online on March 27, 2017 and has been instrumental in notifying more than 18,000 residential and business subscribers about emergency threats. It is also used to communicate significant community information such as government closures.
Officials consider RAVE a more modern update to the system currently being used. It will allow Tuscaloosa County EMA and its public safety partners to more quickly send alerts about severe weather, public safety, evacuations, shelter information, missing persons and more according to Tuscaloosa County Emergency Manager Nick Lolley.
The Governor's Office and Alabama EMA purchased the new program for all counties statewide. Lolley says the new system couldn't come at a better time because they were already looking to upgrade.
"Technology changes daily," Lolley noted. "We have been looking for a new system right at two years and this came along at the perfect time to upgrade to better technology."
If you don't confirm the email you will still receive the alerts. There are some 18,000-plus subscribers to the current system and Lolley says this update provides the perfect time for more people to subscribe. You can still register at TuscALERT.com.
