Tuscaloosa Mayor Names New Head of Strategic Communications
A new voice will be tasked with sharing the best stories to be told in Tuscaloosa as Mayor Walt Maddox appoints a new executive director of strategic communications.
In a Monday press release, Maddox said Sarah Bridger Gilmore, who had been serving as grants manager for the city, will replace Richard Rush as the head of strat-com. Dr. Rush was recently promoted to a new position, where he will head up government relations, external affairs and crisis communication

Bridger Gilmore's new role is effective immediately, and Maddox said she's the right fit to fill the big shoes Rush is stepping out of after six years in the role.
"Earning and maintaining the trust of people we serve begins with clear, effective communication," Maddox said. "Bridger Gilmore brings a fresh understanding of how to best tell our City's story and is exactly who we need to continue building a stronger connection to our community."
Like Rush, Bridger Gilmore joined City Hall in 2019. Maddox said she in that time, has served as a communications specialist, Public Relations and External Affairs Manager, and Grants Manager.
Bridger Gilmore holds a master's degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor's from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, the city said.
