A car dealership in Tuscaloosa will host a school supply drive Friday, offering music, food and more to raise and distribute much-needed materials to three area elementary schools.

Tre Lanier, the dealership's marketing director and sales manager, told the Thread that the event kicked off at Skyland Auto Sales on Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa Thursday, but the main event will be Friday and continue into Saturday.

Lanier said during the drive will benefit Woodland Forrest, Skyland and Central Elementary Schools.

"Our desire is to make sure all of our children start the school year well-equipped and ready to learn!" Lanier said.

Lanier and the dealership have partnered with three area food trucks -- the Good Bird, CoCo Crabs and Knawlin's Po Boys -- and during each day of the drive, they'll be selling lunch plates for $5 apiece.

All proceeds raised during the event will go to buying supplies for students at the three schools above.

Lanier said he has toys, knickknacks, gift cards and other prizes to give away to those in attendance.

Lanier said each school posts a list of the supplies its students will need online, and that anyone who wanted to donate supplies directly instead of through buying a plate is more than welcome to do so.

The drive will be ongoing from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thurdsay and Friday and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday.

The used car dealership can be found at 3610 Skyland Boulevard East in Tuscaloosa just down the street from the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
