Tuscaloosa and Auburn Mayors Again Wager Donations on Iron Bowl
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox will again wager against Auburn Mayor Ron Anders, staking donations to local charities on the outcome of the Iron Bowl.
During his first term in office in 2005, Maddox made the bet that sparked this series with former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham and has wagered donations to nonprofits for every Iron Bowl since.
As the Tide prepares to travel to east Alabama for a bout in Jordan-Hare Stadium, Maddox has pledged to make a $100 donation to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama if the Tigers can pull off the upset and Beat Bama.
Anders will donate $100 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative if Alabama continues to dominate the second half of this season and takes care of business in Auburn.
Tuscaloosa has enjoyed the better end of the arrangement - in the 18 years since Maddox was first elected, Alabama has won the Iron Bowl 11 times to Auburn's seven.
“Regardless of the outcome, this wager makes the Iron Bowl a win-win for Tuscaloosa and Auburn," Maddox said. "The Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama are both important causes and I’m glad to help bring them some recognition. May the best team win, and Roll Tide!”
