Former Alabama Crimson Tide and current Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been stretchered off the field after suffering head and neck injuries in Thursday’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Due to the severity of the injury, the play will not be shown.

The injury resulted from a sack where Tagovailoa landed hard on his head from a hit by Bengals defensive tackle Josh Tupou, and needed assistance from the medical team via a backboard and stretcher to leave the field. Tagovailoa suffered an apparent head/back injury last week against the Buffalo Bills, but eventually returned after clearing concussion protocol.

Tagovailoa's hands and arms exhibited the neurological response to head trauma, according to the broadcast of the game.

The Dolphins announced on Twitter that Tagovailoa was conscious and had movement in all his extremities while being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

It was questioned whether Tagovailoa would even appear in Thursday’s game due to the quick turnaround after the injury suffered in Sunday’s game. There is speculation to be made on whether he should have been cleared to play in the first place, and if the severity of the original injury might have been downplayed in some way.

Per the broadcast, Tagovailoa will be released from the hospital Thursday night and will travel home with the team.
