Train Trestle in Downtown Northport On Fire on Thursday Afternoon

Firefighters are on the scene in Downtown Northport, as the train trestle is on fire over the Black Warrior River in Tuscaloosa County.

The fire is just behind City Cafe in Northport, Alabama. Firefighters are on the scene to combat the blaze.
Tuscaloosa was recently awarded a $44 million contract to widen the road underneath the bridge, which had long been a priority for Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox. In Tuesday's meeting of the city's project committee, Maddox said he first discussed the project soon after his first election in 2005 and has been working on it since.
