Tuscaloosa Police Identify Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Vehicle on I-359 Wednesday
Police in Tuscaloosa have identified a 23-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck by a pair of trucks on I-359 early Wednesday morning.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said 23-year-old Brianna Shaunta Nelson was killed while crossing Interstate 359 at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Taylor said Nelson was crossing the southbound lanes when she was first struck by an oncoming box truck. Police believe a second driver in an SUV swerved after the woman was hit the first time and then collided with another box truck, which then also struck Brianna Nelson.
Taylor said Nelson was pronounced deceased at the scene when police arrived.
TPD's Traffic Homicide Unit, which investigates all traffic collisions involving deaths or serious injuries, will handle the investigation.
