Officers found a juvenile victim under the age of 18 had been shot and the teen was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center, but did not survive his injuries.

The VCU does not generally share information about murder victims or suspects who are minors, and Kennedy said they would not publicly release the identity of the juvenile killed Wednedsay.

Kennedy said VCU investigators processed evidence at the scene of the shooting, interviewed witnesses and located persons of interest before arresting

20-year-old Mikal Rashaun Kirkman, who has been charged with one count of murder and booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond per Aniah’s Law.

Kennedy said the motive for the tragedy is still under investigation.

This is the seventh homicide the VCU has investigated so far this year and the second committed in Tuscaloosa County in a week.
