Schools across West Alabama are canceling their afternoon activities Tuesday as the threat of severe weather looms.

Both the Tuscaloosa City Schools and the Tuscaloosa County School System have canceled all afterschool activities and their Extended Day programs, where students can stay at school for a few hours after classes are dismissed.

There will be no change to operating hours or regular release times, but all parents should ensure their students have transportation home immediately after classes end.

Tuscaloosa City Schools administrators have also called off their regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting and Student Hearings that were scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Concerns about the storms have grown early this week, as severe conditions have become more likely and the area expected to be impacted has shifted further into West and Central Alabama.

Several threats are possible Tuesday night and before dawn Wednesday, including hail, high winds, flash flooding and tornadoes.
