The former shutdown cornerback for Alabama is now the highest paid defensive back in the NFL, further solidifying Alabama's "DBU" narrative.

Surtain II becomes the fifth cornerback and eighth defensive back under Nick Saban to be drafted in the first round.

In their midday news conference Thursday, several Alabama football players announced their departure from the program and their next steps towards the NFL Draft. Among them is red-shirt junior quarterback Mac Jones.

Patrick Surtain II has decided to forego a senior year at the University of Alabama and declare for the NFL Draft.
