An Iranian University of Alabama doctoral student who was taken away from his Tuscaloosa apartment by federal immigration police last week has been denied bond in a Thursday hearing.

A diverse crowd of several dozen protestors gathered outside the federal courthouse in downtown Tuscaloosa to publicly support an Iranian University of Alabama doctoral student who was taken by federal immigration authorities last week.

Workers at the Pickens County Jail gave conflicting answers on if they are detaining an Iranian University of Alabama doctoral student who was arrested by federal immigration officials Tuesday.

The University of Alabama is assuring international students that they are valued members of the campus after federal immigration agents detained a doctoral student in Tuscaloosa this week.
