Tuscaloosa and Northport should brace for additional heavy rainfall today as the National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH in effect until 7 p.m. tonight.

Authorities have released the name of a man killed by flash flooding in Tuscaloosa Saturday.

The Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service reports a body was recovered near I-359 this morning, ending a search and rescue effort that began when a man was swept away after his vehicle became trapped in rising flood water.

The Druid City was inundated by surprise heavy rainfall Saturday afternoon, creating chaos and closing roadways.

Northport Baptist Church in downtown Northport is available as a shelter.

Authorities are urging residents to stay home to avoid traffic collisions, stuck cars and possible fatalities.

The warning will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Friday.

Major, dangerous flooding has closed parts of Alabama State Route 171 and Jackson Trace Road in northern Tuscaloosa County Friday.
