With Hillcrest’s huge win over Northridge last week, the doors of Region 4 of 6A were opened wide for an arms race involving almost all of the teams in the region. Now that we’re in October with only four weeks of the regular season left, its “put up or shut up” time for teams on the edge of a playoff berth.

This week, many of the Tuscaloosa-area schools are looking at off weeks, but many other schools in west; Alabama are taking on cross-division and even cross-class showdowns. These may not affect playoff races, but they can definitely halt some of the valuable momentum that teams have been storing as they progress through the season.

The Central Falcons (2-2, 1-1) defeated the Marbury Bulldogs (3-2, 1-2) by a score of 27-12 to even their Class 5A Region 3 record this Friday evening.

Last week, Tuscaloosa-area schools didn’t look great. Besides a miracle in Wetumpka by Hillcrest, west Alabama was full of blowouts. Still, this week provides several big area matchups that could be big statement wins for a few schools in a rut.

In what started as a defensive battle full of fumbles, the Demopolis Tigers (3-0, 1-0) took down the Central Falcons 40-24. The Tigers had a rough half, losing three of their four fumbles. Demopolis coach Brian Seymore helped his team turn that around in the second half with four touchdowns, three of which were unanswered in the fourth quarter.

Week two of Alabama high school football season is in the books, so that means one thing- area play. Nearly every high school in west Alabama is taking on an area foe, and TIDE 100.9 will be covering it.

Friday night, Northridge High School (2-0, 0-0) made a statement with a 26-0 win over Central High School (Tuscaloosa) (1-1, 0-0).

Football season is now underway- at least for high schools across the state of Alabama. Tuscaloosa County especially is seeing an influx of talent from all classifications. While all teams have only played one game, we are looking at several teams that have the potential to be battling for a ‘blue map’ at Bryant-Denny Stadium in December.
