
Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Abernathy Running Unopposed
One of the most popular and respected Tuscaloosa County Sheriffs of modern times has announced his re-election. To emphasize the popularity of Sheriff Ron Abernathy, he is running unopposed.
Abernathy was hired by another long-serving sheriff in Tuscaloosa County Beasor Walker in 1988. After his promotion to Chief Deputy in 1998, Gov. Bob Riley appointed him sheriff in 2008. Sheriff Abernathy was won successive elections since and has worked to modernize and growing the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office to meet the needs of a growing county.
“I am proud to announce I am seeking another term as your sheriff,” Abernathy wrote in his Facebook announcement. “It is my great privilege to serve the people of Tuscaloosa County.”
Abernathy credits the work of the more than 200 employees and deputies of his department for his success. “I want to say thank you to the dedicated employees of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office whose hard work and professionalism make Tuscaloosa a safer and more prosperous place to live, work, and raise a family,” he further wrote in his online announcement. “Serving alongside you is an honor.”
The sheriff is a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and earned a degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama. He is also a graduate of the highly respected FBI Academy, Leadership Tuscaloosa and Leadership Alabama programs.
The Tuscaloosa native served as a U.S. Army Military Police Officer and has participated in training by the U.S. Secret Service Protective Operations Advanced Incident Command and various terrorism and Homeland Security training programs.
During his career in law enforcement his service has been recognized by the presentation of a number of awards and honors. He also serves on the board of several community organizations.
Abernathy thanked the community for its support and asked for their votes in the November General Election.
