A lineman working to restore power in Hale County Monday morning was killed in an accident, management at his company has confirmed.

Daryl Jones, the general manager of Black Warrior Electric Membership Corporation, said the employee was fixing power lines that were damaged last Thursday when a tornado outbreak wreaked havoc across all of Alabama, including causing major damage in several Hale County communities.

“We in the Black Warrior EMC family are profoundly saddened by this loss,” Jones said. “Our prayers are with his family and his co-workers as we work to process this tragedy which has devastated our cooperative family.”

Jones said grief counselors have been called in to help Black Warrior EMC's other employees cope with the tragedy.

The company maintains more than 6,700 miles of line in 12 counties in Alabama, providing power to more than 26,000 homes and businesses.
