The man accused of shooting a Tuscaloosa Police officer in the chest Monday afternoon has been identified and formally charged with three counts of attempted murder.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said 19-year-old Devonte Lavon Farmer is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon in Noxubee County, Mississippi and may have been involved in other shootings in several other jurisdictions in the Magnolia State.

Investigators now believe Farmer is the man who fired shots at three Tuscaloosa Police officers at the Links apartment complex and golf course in southern Tuscaloosa Monday afternoon.

In an exchange of gunfire, Farmer allegedly hit a TPD officer in the torso and took a bullet to the hand.

The officer was wearing a bulletproof vest and escaped the incident with bruised ribs. Farmer was hospitalized overnight and treated for his wounds but has since been discharged and formally charged with three counts of attempted murder.

Kennedy said the VCU is cooperating with law enforcement agencies in Mississippi in their investigations into the shootings Farmer may have been involved with there.

Anyone with any information regarding Farmer's location or prior activities in or about the Tuscaloosa area prior to Monday's shooting at the Links is urged to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 205-464-8690.
