Police ID 24-Year-old Shot and Killed in Northport, Investigation Still Active
Investigators are urging cooperation from anyone with information about a shooting that left a 24-year-old man dead in Northport Sunday evening.
As the Thread reported last night, police were called to Northwood Lake Drive West around 7:15 Sunday night on reports of a shooting.
In a Monday morning update, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, Captain Jack Kennedy said a 24-year-old man identified as Demetrius Damon Windham, Jr. also known as DJ, had been shot and was dead on the scene.
"The Violent Crimes Unit responded and has assumed the investigation. At this time the investigation is still active," Kennedy said. "Anyone who witnessed any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of Northwood Lake Drive West between the Northwood Lake spillway area and Highway 69 around the time of 7:15 PM is encouraged to contact the VCU at 205 464-8690."
No arrests have been made in the wake of the shooting, which is the 16th homicide the VCU has investigated in Tuscaloosa County this year by the count of the Tuscaloosa Thread staff.
