The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force and Federal partners, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), have successfully concluded a month-long investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine within Pickens County with an arrest.
Throughout the investigation, deputies and DEA agents purchased methamphetamine from 44-year-old Darrell Hinton. The investigation led to Hinton’s being taken into custody this afternoon following the execution of a search warrant.
During the operation, investigators seized approximately 114 grams of methamphetamines, 12 grams of cocaine, 282 grams of marijuana, and a quantity of hydrocodone pills, and stolen firearm.
“This case is another example of what can be accomplished when local and federal agencies work together,” Pickens County Sheriff Jordon Powell was quoted as saying in a press release. “We will continue to partner with our state and federal counterparts to combat the flow of this poison into our communities and hold those who distribute it accountable."
According to the arrest warrant, Hinton is charged with:
- Trafficking in Methamphetamine
- Trafficking in Opioids
- Possession of Marijuana in the First Degree
- Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute
- Three Counts of Failure to Affix Tax Stamp
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Certain Person Forbidden to Possess a Firearm
Bond has been initially set at $124,500.00. Hinton remains in the Pickens County Jail as of publication.
