Police in Northport are investigating after a pedestrian was reportedly struck and killed by a vehicle late Saturday night.

Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, said the collision happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard near the Piggly Wiggly grocery store.

The pedestrian was identified as 65-year-old Willie Lewis Lott, who lived in Northport. Carpenter said Lott was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Northport Police, Fire and Rescue and NorthStar Ambulance responded to the scene which took place in the north lanes of the highway Saturday night.

 

Carpenter said the cause of the fatality accident is being investigated by the Northport Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit, but at this time, no criminal charges are pending.
