The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for half a dozen West Alabama counties in our coverage area ahead of bad weather expected to arrive tonight.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Fayette, Pickens, Lamar, Walker, Marion and Winston Counties, as well as more to the north which are outside our coverage area.

A NWS spokesperson said the primary threats will be damaging winds and hail, but the threat of a tornado cannot be ruled out.

IN CENTRAL ALABAMA

FAYETTE               LAMAR                 MARION               
PICKENS               WALKER                WINSTON              

THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF ALICEVILLE, CARROLLTON, FAYETTE, 
HALEYVILLE, HAMILTON, JASPER, SULLIGENT, AND VERNON.

The storm system is expected to arrive across west Alabama between 8 and 10 p.m. and pass through by midnight or 2 a.m.
