Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.

Elly Page, Northridge Middle School's Rising Star Character Student of the Month, demonstrates good character in the classroom and on the court!

Page, an eighth grader, was presented with the award Monday morning during her geometry class. She said she was excited, yet shocked to learn she was selected to represent her school.

"I'm very excited," Page said. "I try to do a lot for everybody around this community and the fact that it shows to other people is shocking and exciting."

Page said she displays good character by making sure her peers feel happy and accepted by others.

"I never like to see anyone that is hurting or having a bad day so that's my number one priority," Page said. "I don't want to cause any drama or hurt anybody so I always try to put a smile on their face and make sure no one is being rude because bullying is a big thing I have a hate for."

Page said she try to make sure students feel that they are in a positive and safe space.

Page is a member of Northridge Middle's volleyball team, as well as a travel volleyball team outside of school, where she serves a captain. She said as a leader, she tried to implement positivity by ensuring her teammates show good sportsmanship to other teams and leads through her faith.

"I like to start everything with prayer because that's the strongest part of my life," Page said.

Page said her favorite subject is english and credits her english teacher for helping her embrace all of the qualities that make her unique.

"My teacher, Mrs.Thomas has helped me a lot this year by helping me find myself and realize that I don't have to be in my shell and I can be myself all the time so she's really helped with that."

Page said she is honored and thankful to her teachers and administrators for choosing her to represent her school.
