Northport Woman Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting
A 50-year-old Northport woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly shot a man in the neck on Highway 171 Friday night.
According to court documents filed Wednesday, the victim in the shooting was parked on the side of Highway 171 between Northport and Fayette late Friday night when Deborah Denise Watkins allegedly pulled her vehicle in front of him and prevented him from leaving.
A second car pulled in behind the victim, effectively trapping him on the highway.
Watkins reportedly got out of her vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired two shots at the victim from around six feet away.

One bullet struck the victim, a 48-year-old man, in the neck. Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the victim was in stable condition Wednesday and police do not believe his injuries are life-threatening.
Kennedy said the shooting is believed to be the result of a longstanding feud between Watkins and the man she allegedly shot.
Watkins, who lives in rural Northport near the scene of the shooting, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with attempted murder.
She was booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where her bond was set at $60,000. She remained there Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the second car that blocked the victim in has not yet been charged with any crime.
