Northport Council Green Lights Repaving of 75 City Roads

The Northport City council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing repaving projects all across the city Monday night.

The multimillion-dollar plan paves the way for the resurfacing of portions of 75 roads in all corners of Northport this year.

Council President Jeff Hogg said the 2021 Resurfacing Plan is the largest ever passed in the city's history and the first passed by the council and mayor who were elected to office last year.

"We are very excited that we are able to do this and this is going to hit a lot of different areas and a lot of different districts that have need," Hogg said. "We're doing everything we can to get new pavement and asphalt on the roads."

The exact cost of the project has yet to be determined as the city must contract out each of the 75 stretches of road to competitive bidders.

Hogg said the roads and portions of roads that will be repaved were chosen by existing need and usage data.

In a Facebook post before the meeting, Hogg said plans are already underway to shape up a 2022 list of roads to repave and the council will then consider what areas need attention in 2023 and 2024.
