A young Northport man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Watermelon Road, according to State Troopers.

Corporal Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency in west Alabama, said the accident happened a few minutes after 2 a.m. Saturday.

King said 20-year-old Oscar L. Trejo was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado that left the road and struck a tree.

Trejo, a Northport resident, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, which King said occurred on Watermelon Road less than one mile north of the Tuscaloosa city limits.

No further details were available Saturday and King said Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
