Northport Cancels Second-Ever Veterans Day Parade Over Low Participation
The City of Northport will not host its second-ever Veteran's Day parade due to lower-than-expected participation ahead of the holiday next weekend.
The city held its first Veterans Day parade last year to good attendance and positive feedback. In September, city leaders announced plans to bring the parade back "grander and more heartfelt than ever before."
In a surprise announcement emailed to local media Wednesday afternoon, a city spokesperson said the parade and ceremony planned for next Saturday morning will be "regretfully" canceled.
"The City of Northport regretfully announces the difficult decision to cancel the Veterans Day parade and opening ceremony scheduled to be held on November 11, 2023, due to a lack of sufficient participation in the parade," said Whitney DuBose, Community Relations Coordinator. "Our hope is that our citizens will continue the tradition of honoring all who have served in the US Military by participating in other community events and by personally thanking veterans for their service."
