This region's great convenor, the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, is accepting nominations for the 2025 Class of their Civic Hall of Fame.

The honor is among the highest awarded in the area and recognizes truly exceptional citizens who have made significant and long-term contributions to the betterment of life in Tuscaloosa County.

"Nominees must have made contributions to civic, social, religious or political growth of Tuscaloosa outside of his or her career responsibilities," the Chamber said in an announcement.

Those who are inducted are also placed on a wall of plaques beautifying downtown Tuscaloosa's Government Plaza.

First launched in the year 2001, only 139 people have been added to the Civic Hall of Fame since then. The list includes Coach Paul Bryant, Snow Hinton, McDonald Hughes, Frank Moody, Munny Sokol and Maude Whatley - titans of the Tuscaloosa community.

"However, many individuals worthy of this honor have yet to be recognized, and the Civic Hall of Fame encourages individuals and organizations to nominate potential inductees," the Chamber said. "Honorees will be inducted at a ceremony later in the year."

Three people were inducted last year, the Chamber said - Dr. William Nathan Dansby, Robert “Bobby” Lanier Ingram, Jr, and Marlin D. “Lin” Moore III.

Residents who believe they know a worthy nominee can learn more and submit their names online here.

Each year, the deadline to submit a nomination is June 1.
