Nina Meriwether Thomas Paxton (January 25th, 1925 – September 21st, 2023)

Nina Paxton (Teeny), age 98, passed away on September 21, 2023.

She was preceded by her husband of 53 years, Robert Paxton, and son Thomas Paxton. Teeny is survived by sons, Bob Paxton (Vickie) of Ocala and Andy Paxton (Minda) of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren Graham Paxton (Rebecca), Hannah Paxton, Meriwether Martin (Andrew), Rebecca Owens (Matt), Callie West (Wilson), Lisa Eaddy (James); great-grandchildren Alexandra and Elizabeth Paxton, Elliott and Virginia Martin, Harry and Archie West.

Teeny grew up in Tampa, FL and graduated from the University of North Carolina. She and Bob raised their 3 sons in Winston-Salem, NC where she was active in Junior League, the Opera Guild, and Highland Presbyterian Church. As a vocal performance major, Teeny frequently performed in NC. She later honed her talents as a visual artist using colored pencils and founded ArtRageous at Highland Church.

Teeny had a passion for UNC basketball, where her husband played. Upon moving to AL, she transitioned to supporting UA Men’s Basketball, meeting the team and attending all home games. While at Capstone Village, Teeny started a prayer shawl ministry, teaching ladies to crochet. This ministry touched many who received shawls in time of need. The family would like to thank Capstone Village and West Alabama Hospice for their care and love for Teeny. There is a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church Tuscaloosa on October 25, 2023 at 10:00 am in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to First Presbyterian, American Cancer Society, or Hospice of West Alabama.
