Audrey and Paul Vermilyea are no strangers to the Tuscaloosa community, and after much success at the coffee shop they opened in 2017, they have moved to open a local market that aims to bring quality goods to the area.

The Vermilyeas, who own and operate Monarch Espresso Bar in downtown Tuscaloosa, have now opened Domo, a new market on Jack Warner Parkway.

The couple said Domo will provide quality meats, seafood, cheeses, wine and other artisan goods not found in traditional grocery stores by partnering with small, local farms and other regional sources.

The Vermilyeas said they want to be able to deliver products that are based on customer needs.

"We want to be a place where you come in and tell us  'Hey, I'm throwing a party for my
friends. Do you have these fun steaks or how would you recommend we cook this chicken? We want to be a place that has conversations with the community," Audrey Vermilyea said.

Domo also offers grab-and-go sandwiches and mini charcuterie boxes designed for picnics or walks along the Tuscaloosa River Walk, which is connected to the plaza that houses the new business. They also provide catering options for charcuterie boards and wine recommendations for larger events.

The owners said they felt the spot at the Shops at Riverwalk Place on Jack Warner Parkway was a perfect place along the river to better serve customers in a convenient location.

"We know that Saturday mornings at the River Market have a bunch of traffic," Paul Vermilyea said. "We thought that what we're trying to do would fit well with that."

Domo's soft opening took place last Friday and Saturday but the couple will look to begin regular hours this week.

Domo is located 1650 Jack Warner Parkway, Suite 1008 and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
