Minor Seay Medders, age 94, of Northport went to heaven on December 23, 2021,at Bibb County Nursing in Centreville, Alabama. He was surrounded by family.

Services will be Thursday. December 30, 2021, at Magnolia Chapel North with Brother Steve Vernon of Greensboro, Alabama, a beloved Medders family friend, officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. with Funeral Services at 1 PM all at Magnolia North.

Burial with military honors will follow at Macedonia Methodist Church Highway 69 North.

Mr. Medders was a member of Macedonia Methodist Church, a Navy World War II veteran, and a life-long Mason. He worked at Gulf States Paper Corp. until its closing, and retired from Empire Coke Co . He was a dedicated member of Fitness One gym where he worked out 6 days a week. There, he served as self-appointed social director.

He is preceded by his beloved wife, Mary Evelyn (Crickett) Rushing Medders, son-in-law Nick Gibson, parents Minor and Muggie Stewart Medders; 3 sisters Lillian Bowen, Malledene Avery and Miss Eloise Medders; 4 brothers Vernon, Pascal, De and Ray; and additional family.

He is survived by his daughter Debra Peters (Marc) Northport; 2 grandsons Brett Gibson (Angie) of Ocean Sound, Fl, and Heath Gibson (Martha) of Mt Pleasant, SC; 5 Great grandchildren Hayes Gibson, Grayson Gibson, Claire Gibson, Libby Gibson and Nora Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and additional relatives.

Having 4 older brothers serving in World War II, Minor joined the Navy at age 16, and served on the USS Alaska, a battle cruiser, in the Pacific Theater. This meant Moma Medders had all five sons serving in World War II at the same time. All five brothers returned.

On his return Mr. Medders graduated from Bibb Co. High, and worked for his brother Vernon in Centreville. He moved to Tuscaloosa after securing a job at Gulf States Paper.

Pallbearers are Brett Gibson, Heath Gibson, Hayes Gibson, Grayson,Gibson, Dale Ellinghausen. Bill Hurter, Hilary Shirley, Jacob Majors and Patrick Brewer.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. John Summerford; the Bart Harper family, Robert and Vickie Burns; Woody and Sam Hamner; Randy, Carol and Brandon Booth; friends at Macedonia Methodist Church; Staff and friends at Bibb County Nursing Home, Friends at Fitness One, Gulf States Paper and Empire Coke.

Debra, Brett and Heath wish to recognize and thank Dale and Lynn Ellinghausen for their prayers, love, special efforts, visits and support in helping with Minors care.
