Almost 1,000 students are learning skills across dozens of disciplines at the Tuscaloosa Career & Technology Academy, a fact the school aims to show off Thursday at their second-ever Mega WOW open house.

A Tuscaloosa City Schools spokeswoman said around 900 students already enroll in classes at TCTA, where they are enrolled in programs to get hands-on experience with skills including welding, cosmetology, manufacturing and cooking.

Mega WOW is designed to show the broader community what those programs entail.

The event is this evening, August 31st, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

“We want people to come and not only see what types of activities we have to offer, but to be engaged in everything we have going on,” TCTA principal Richjetta Branch said in a release. “We are looking at this as a family engagement opportunity, but also as a chance to open our doors and show the community everything we have to offer, including future TCTA students."

The Thursday programming will include some classes led by TCTA students themselves demonstrating what they have learned and done in classes at the school and giving visitors a chance to engage themselves.

Mega WOW will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 at TCTA, which is located at 2800 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Tuscaloosa.
