Tuscaloosa City Schools, along with Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa, Legal Services of Alabama and Child Abuse Prevention Services, will highlight and recognize Rising Star Character Students of the Month from each school in the district during the 2022-2023 school year. Each month, two to three outstanding TCS students will be highlighted in this series.

Orlandria Stewart is the second December recipient of the Rising Star Character Student of the Month, representing Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School.

Stewart is a fifth grader and is a member of MLK Elementary's Mathletes competition team. She said she enjoys drawing and braiding hair for fun.

Stewart said she demonstrates good character by being prepared when she comes to school.

"I'm respectful, responsible, always ready to learn and I come to school very prepared," Stewart said.

Stewart said good character, intelligence and perseverance are all instilled in the students at MLK Elementary.

"We show good character traits," Stewart said. "No matter how hard something gets, we always try to figure it out and if we can't, we ask for help and keep working hard to get more understanding."
