Details Sparse as University of Alabama Reports Chemical Spill Near Campus

The University of Alabama has reported a chemical spill near its campus in Tuscaloosa, but details about the incident are still very sparse.

The school's official UA Safety Twitter account shared the news late Wednesday night, but did not provide details about the nature of the spill.

The incident reportedly took place on Campus Drive East near Helen Keller Boulevard. Residents are advised to avoid the area.

The Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue Service's hazardous materials team was reportedly en route to the scene Wednesday night.

UPDATE, 9:10 P.M.: The city of Tuscaloosa has confirmed the chemical spill is a fluoride leak in a holding tank at the Ed Love Water Treatment Plant. There is no threat to the general public Wednesday night. 

UPDATE 9:15 P.M.: The spill has been contained, according to a new Tweet from UA Safety.
