Man Identified, Detained After Shooting Leaves 1 Critically Hurt
Early this morning, The Tuscaloosa Thread reported that a shooting occurred near the intersection of University Boulevard and Queen City Avenue, leaving a victim in critical condition.
Lt. Jack Kennedy of the multi-agency Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) has identified the suspect as 22-year-old Zachary Profozich, who is currently detained and will be charged with attempted murder. He will be taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail from the VCU at 1 p.m. today, where he will be processed and held on a $60,000 bond.
Kennedy said Tuscaloosa Police officers responded to the shooting at around 1:32 a.m. this morning. The VCU "responded to assume the investigation and worked throughout the night locating evidence and witnesses," and detained Profozich later that morning.
The victim is a 19-year-old male, who was shot one time and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center. He remains in critical condition.
Profozich and the victim "were involved in an argument that precipitated the shooting," according to Kennedy, who affirmed that there are no ongoing threats to The Strip or the University of Alabama areas.
