Mac Jones Makes a $100,000 Donation
New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is making an impact on the field and in his community. Jones visited the Boys and Girls Club of South Metro in Brockton, Mass. on Tuesday and presented them with a $100,00 donation.
"I've been super busy focused on football, but I want to be able to step out [in the community] like I did in college and high school," Jones said. "Helping younger kids is kind of what my passion is, young people, whether they like sports or not, to help them reach their dreams."
Jones was met by hundreds of kids, handed out footballs and took a tour of the youth organization. He also spoke to a group of high school football players in the area and offered them some advice.
"I just told them to have fun and enjoy whatever level you're playing at. Some of them going to be playing D1 in college next year. So that's pretty impressive. I told 'em to have fun and enjoy the moment and don't take it for granted. That's pretty much all you can ask, is to work hard and keep your family, God -- whatever you believe in first. Everything will take care of itself."
The former Alabama All-American was exceptional in his first season in New England. Jones threw for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns, a rookie franchise record and guided the Patriots back to the playoffs.
The 23-year old signal call had some spectacular performances in the process. He was the first rookie quarterback in Patriots history with three passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a week 10 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Jones also became the first rookie in NFL history to complete at least 80% of his passes in back-to-back games.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft raved about his franchise quarterback at the annual Owners Meeting in Florida.
“He’s such a good person, and humble,” he said. “I come in there sometimes on the weekend, or early and he’s there working out, watching film, just doing things that I wouldn’t believe someone of his background would have that kind of commitment given his past. The guys in the locker room really like him — all the guys. I actually believe he has a little more edge than we’ve see, but he’s been respectful of coming in as a rookie. I’m very high on him and I think the staff did a great job drafting him. We’re lucky to have him for our future, and this will be a good year.”
Jones has a franchise and a community that firmly stands behind him.
